I want to eat chocolate? Some scientists think that introducing tucking in your favorite candy bar, you can reduce the amount you end up eating.
Small-scale studies at Carnegie Mellon University in Pennsylvania, found that people who repeatedly imagine eating food will eventually eat less of it.
If you have ever had the experience, though, can't stop thinking about cookies until you end up banging and there is one issue you quite how accurate conclusions of scientists.
The study was quite small, with only 51 people and was published in science. Participants were divided into four groups:
One group has their own food products (this study use m & Ms and cubes of cheese), another group itself several timesA still own food variety foodThe final panel yourself eating anythingThe authors wrote that the first group of "imaginary subsequently uses less than other food" and added:
They did it because they want to eat less, not because they find it less acceptable. These results indicate that only mental representation may cause addictive to stimulus.
In plain English this means that dreams can make us get used to something. You've probably noticed that the first couple bites your favorite food is usually best, it's because you'll quickly become accustomed to it.
Scientists believe that, imagining that we eat food, we get the same feeling is used, so we ended up being satisfied with less.
Crackpot study, or a new enlightenment?
Well I don't think the imagination will never be as healthy diet in combination with effective. However, if you want to monitor how much you eat this Christmas, it just might be worth a try.
