My people, Italians, known for centuries that keeps the Mediterranean diet you fit and trim. This time the rest of the world caught up. Fannulloni!
Mediterranean diet includes foods like fruits, vegetables, nuts, olive oil and a moderate amount of fish and wine but very little saturated fat, like eggs, meat, dairy and poultry.
And a new study says people who follow the Mediterranean diet can avoid putting on extra weight as they age.
Published in American Journal of clinical nutrition, researchers asked 10000 graduates of universities in Spain, men and women, average age 38, fill out a survey of food. Participants then tracked for six years.
Person who followed the Mediterranean diet were 10% less chance of becoming overweight or obese, and 24% less likely to get over 11 pounds during the first four years of research.
The average weight among the participants in this study was half a pound. But the people most closely Mediterranean diet gained less weight, compared with study participants who depart from the Mediterranean diet.
Researchers insist sticking up for the long term diet is an effective way to prevent weight gain, and called on the Mediterranean diet "user". friendly
